Haiti Lifeline Ministries (2900 SW MacVicar): Haiti Lifeline Ministries (“HLM”) is proud to present an exhibition containing pieces painted by several of the children living at Centre Children International Lifeline d’Haiti, a ministry partner of HLM. Many of the young adults living at this orphanage in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti are very artistic and we are excited to show case their talent! Also included are unique Haitian collectibles such as wooden tea sets and metalworking. All of the pieces including those done by our sponsored children will be sold by silent auction. Matryoshka Tattoo (902 N Kansas): Our featured artist for October is Beth King. She grew up in Topeka, and has been drawing and painting for most of her life. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art from Emporia State University, where her focus was ceramics. To her, Halloween is a fun holiday. She was fortunate enough to be able to show in October, and this show represents that. These pieces are layered, with a watercolor underneath and an ink drawing on top. SouthWind Art Gallery (3074 SW 29th): Call for Entry: SouthWind is excited to announce that we will be accepting entries into our annual Best Holiday Ever: Miniature Art Show! We accept all subjects in any two dimensional media. The only requirement is that the artwork be 6" x 6" and arrive at the gallery unframed. There is a $35 fee per entry which also covers the framing of your artwork (glass is included for submissions that require it). Submissions are accepted throughout October and the show will be on display through November and December. Our full prospectus can be viewed on our website. Beauchamp's Art Gallery (3113 SW Huntoon - Westboro Mart) will be exhibiting paintings by Nora Othic & Kristin Goering in a show entitled Life in the Prairie. Both Nora and Kristin are considered "neo-regionalists" - painters that celebrate the land and culture of small town and rural America. Glaciers Edge Winery (1636 SE 85th in Wakarusa): We will have the tasting porch and patio ready for you to spend your October First Friday Art Walk at the winery. Our featured musical artist will be Jazz Guitarist, Alex Frank. Currently Alex is a 3rd year student in Jazz Studies and Music Education at KU. Porkys Rollin Smoke BBQ will be in the parking lot and Pepper's Garden Art will be inside! Enjoy wine and slushies by the pour or a bottle while enjoying live music and awesome BBQ! SOHO Interiors (3129 SW Huntoon - Westboro Mart) is delighted to have artist Mark Ralston. Mark graduated from Emporia State University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) with an emphasis in Ceramics and Glassblowing. He also received a Bachelor of Education (BSE) and a minor in Business Administration. Mr. Ralston received a Masters of Art in the Master Teacher program at Emporia State University with an emphasis in ceramics and photography. Mark believes when it comes down to it, ART is all around us and is an act of communication that can be experienced through the process of creating or by interacting with art as a viewer. His favorite quote on art is from Walter Pater: "Art comes to you proposing frankly to give nothing but the highest quality to your moments as they pass." Shawnee County Democrats (5350 SW 17th): Join us for First Friday Art Walk as we host Klicks for Kids! Klicks for Kids is a photography exhibit featuring the images of some of the nearly 900 Kansas children in foster care needing adoption. The gallery is a collaborative effort by Adopt Kansas Kids and the Kansas Professional Photographer’s Association to find families for these children, as well as raise awareness of the critical need for foster and adoptive parents in our state. Amused (907 N Kansas): We have lots to celebrate in October. It is our 4th year in business, 1st anniversary of being in the current location and we've taken the leap and bought the building! (It is also the owners bday month) This month's featured artist is DeAna Morrison in her first solo exhibit titled My Current Mental State. DeAna utilizes her background in sculpture to add an element of 3D design to most of her work. A focus on primarily abstract and non subjective images attempts to capture various emotional nuances that have been a part of her creative and personal journey.
