This mural was created through a collaboration with neighborhood matriarch Betty and artist Jamie Colon. The design references the state flag, Kansas landscape and a pair of girls jump-roping...inspired by the girls who lived across the street at the time of painting. The mural was painted with the help of many volunteers on the old Avondale East Elementary School. The building is now home to Net-Reach, Community Resources Council and other community organizations and serves as a community center for the neighborhood. Other site improvements such as a new sign, landscaping and refinishing of the aluminum letters were completed with assistance from Treanor Architects & Mars.
